Vital performing with his band at the BAM Cafe
It was a frosty Friday, my cousin and I walked to the BAM Peter Jay Sharp Building. As soon as we entered through the double doors we could hear whispers of music, we took the escalator upstairs to the BAM Cafe. Inside the glow of blue lights reflected from the stage making the cafe look like a new age cabaret.

We grabbed a chamomile tea and fortunately got seats in the front close to the performance. The show had already started and Vital, a Calfornia native, was serenading the Brooklyn crowd with his personal prose that range from stories of heartache to triumph. His music was a combination of both alternative rock and soul, and he reminded me of a grittier Lenny Kravitz. He was accompanied on stage by his back-up singer/lead guitar player, pianist, and drummer.

As a former rapper Vital knows how to tell a story. So when he performed "I hate the L word" his final song of the night and his anti-love anthem my ears perked and the melodic sound.

Vital will be releasing his album later this year, to hear his E.P "I hate the L word" check out: www.officialvital.com
