Interlude 1 - The Update

Whether they formerly call it an interlude or have some crazy skit most contemporary albums have interludes. This blog in a sense is my album; this post is my interlude and I want to catch you up on what I have achieved sense officially launching my blog in March.

Early March I was still looking for a job and staying true to following my passion -- MUSIC. I told myself I would attend 2-3 events a week so I could network and possibly meet someone who would offer me a job. I also said I would apply for an internship; I'm in my late 20's and most internships want  someone in school so they can give them college credits. What about the experienced individual who wants to transition their career. I was on unemployment and thought why not learn as much as possible about this industry before I ran out of time. So I searched the web for opportunities but saw very few. Over the next few days I took time to write messages and cold call publishing, licensing, music production, and independent labels that I was interested in interning with, to be honest one stood out it was a indie label that had major hip hop artist such as Wu-Tang clan, Freeway, Jean Grae, and Brand Nubian. I reached out praying while keeping my fingers crossed that they would be interested. It didn't take too long for them to respond; after about 2 weeks of back and forth I was officially an intern. The job wasn't too glamorous; I would work from home and do some video editing and research, but the major perk was they would pay me. To me that was great, I would get a little cash and have position to add to my resume. After about a month projects started drying up and my manager told me spring would be slow so I wrote it all off and went back on my grind looking for more position.

Unfortunately June was my last month of full unemployment and it was now May and no one was knocking at my door with job offers. I was stressed because I wasn't exactly sure what to do. I came so far and now I would have to go back to work with my tail between my legs. I was almost defeated but then I got a call; it was from my manager at the internship he wanted me to start as a consultant in June for the label. So I can now officially tell you I work for a record label. I have to count my blessings because God is always looking out for me, even times when I'm doubting my path.

What I have learned so far is your friends and family are the ones that can build you up. They support and lend a ear when you need help in making your dreams come true. So I want to salute all of them for being a big part in getting me to this place in my career. I can't wait to see what's next; the best is yet to come!
