Steven Eason, Founder of NervEight, shared with me what inspired him to create the mobile app that helps artist promote their music.
What is NervEight?
NervEight is a dedicated music machine that services
exposure for all musicians. Our approach is non traditional and our
current vehicle is our iOS and Android mobile application. The
mobile application puts rising independent musicians head to head in a
competition for likes from the NervEight user base. Artists that do
well on the mobile platform receive promotion packages, sponsored prizes and a
few other perks.
What inspired you to develop NervEight?
My Co-founder, Torian Johnson, and I have always been involved
in the artist growth and development process. While in school at Temple
University we started a music promotion company focused on educating and
promoting artists within and outside of the Philadelphia region. We
took what we learned from that experience and applied it to our passion for
technology. The original idea behind NervEight stemmed from our belief that
there existed an untapped niche market that needed attention.
Are you a music artist, musician or
work in the music industry?
I dabble in music production, you may hear a couple of
records I’ve worked on floating around, but NervEight keeps me busy. As far as
being in the music industry, I’d say our platform providing the exposure and
opportunities it does for artists, gives us a good footing in the industry.
We’re growing into a space that will guarantee we’re mentioned amongst the big
players in the game.
How did you build your team for the
company?
I started with people that I knew and trusted. From there, I
observed the hard workers, hustlers and people making a name for themselves
without help.
How is NervEight helping music
artist/music community?
Outside of exposure on the mobile app we provide performance
opportunities across the country. We help artists align with other
brands and companies that will assist with elevating their career.
What are some of the struggles you have
overcome in the marketplace?
All lucrative industries are saturated. The goal is standing
out amongst the noise. One of the greatest difficulties for all
businesses is doing so without being a gimmick or fad. I believe the niche we
have targeted allows us to standout without being a gimmick, but a name that
can stand on its own without being overshadowed by some of the larger
companies.
What advice do you have for aspiring
entrepreneurs?
Set short-term goals that lead up to the big
picture. In my opinion, smaller goals are realistic and the method
is more structured and organized. I feel that there are entrepreneurs that set
their eyes on the big goals and get distracted on the work that needs to be
done when they fall short of their expectations of success.
